Critical analysis of The National Council for Voluntary Case Study
Critical analysis of ''The National Council for Voluntary Case Study Strategy and Management Performance of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations â" Case Study Example > In conducting its operations, NCVO has interacted with partnerships and community sectors a great deal. As stated earlier in the introduction, the NCVOâ s main aim is to provide assistance, information, resources and all kinds of support required by the civil societies in order to achieve their goals in the different communities that they serve. NCVO will come in as an overseer for these members. It will seek to harmonize the operations of these organizations and ensure co-ordination of its functions. It appreciates that for an organization to provide volunteer services to the communities, and then, of course, there has to be a lot to do with how respectable and presentable the organization presents itself to the people. In this regard, the NCVO aims at ensuring that these members are able to achieve this face in light of the diversity of the communities that they serve. In order for any of these organizations to be considered as members by the organization, they have to meet th e criteria that NCVO requires of them. As such the membership is voluntary. In working with these members, it will look at their values and this is what it will aim at upholding. It will be looking at the civil society agenda which is four-fold in that there is social cohesion, climate change, wellbeing, and financial security. An organization seeking to work with NCVO has to present their experiences in order for them to be heard, at the same time, they have to co-ordinate and work together with other organization s who are members, in this sense, the NCVO will be looking at which organization ha genuine and outstanding policies and as a result it automatically will be supported by NCVO. As stated earlier, the NCVO aims at providing access to information for its members and helping its members utilize this information in the best way possible, at the same time, it aims at promoting the values that the members propagate in their communities, it will uphold and encourage its member s when it comes to this too. At the same time, it will provide access to human resources and funding that the organizations may require. In this case, it will ensure that its members apply the best practices when it comes to the utilization of these resources.

Example of Report Writing for Students
During their studies at the educational institutions, students are frequently assigned to prepare the report about significant school events in which they participated. The objective of this type of academic work is to examine studentsââ¬â¢ involvement in the occasion and discover their findings from it. Example of report writing for students is prepared in accordance with major requirements that such type of work implies. Specifically, example of report writing for students involves the introductory information about the event, including its type, date, objective, and location. It also represents consistent, well-organized, and significant information about the course of the event that is reported in this paper. Studying Social Work and Human Services during my first year at the Eastern Washington University, I had quite a favorable opportunity to participate in the volunteer event that was organized by the educational institution for children at the age of 7 years with various physical disabilities. This occasion took place in the courtyard of the main building of the University on Monday, May 16, 2016. This event was dedicated to arranging various interesting, entertaining, and interactive activities for physically disabled children and teaching students to communicate and interact with them. This voluntary event started at 10 AM in the morning and lasted till 3 PM. The occasion has begun with an opening speech of the university chancellor. During his opening speech, the university chancellor had greeted the audience and introduced the order of the occasion. After that, the coordinators of the occasion, who were also professors of the University, provided the participants with appropriate instructions, concerning the performance of activities. à ¡hildren were divided into the groups of four people and students, who participated in the event, were appointed to be their mentors. There was a big variety of interesting activities that group mentors had to perform with their groups of toddlers. In particular, the most entertaining and remarkable of them were ââ¬Å"Small Theaterâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Singerâ⬠. The first entertaining activity called ââ¬Å"Small Theaterâ⬠implied the organization of the small comic performance that every group of participants should present. This performance should last no more than 10 minutes, and the same time was provided for arranging it. I could not mention any comic story to apply it as the scenario for the performance. Therefore, I asked young members of my group to offer any comic story they liked the most. Consequently, we arranged and performed the comic play from their favorite cartoon ââ¬Å"The Jungle Bookâ⬠. The second activity ââ¬Å"Singerâ⬠also was quite interesting and exciting as every group has to prepare and perform the song. I have proposed toddlers of my group to perform the well-known childrenââ¬â¢s song ââ¬Å"Chocolate Cakeâ⬠. However, the young participants preferred another song called ââ¬Å"Old Mackdonaldââ¬â¢s Farmâ⬠. I agreed with their offer as they liked and knew this song much better. Our p erformance excited the audience and it caused rough applause. At the end of the occasion, children had a lunch at the dining room of the main building. It was one of the most exciting events I have ever had to participate. It was a great pleasure for me to take part in this volunteer occasion, entertaining children with special needs. I consider this event was also quite important to toddlers as they forgot about their healthy problems for a while, getting involved into exciting activities. Furthermore, I have obtained appropriate communication skills with disabled children that may be relevant to my future profession. Consequently, I can strongly assert that I would definitely participate in such events in the future.

My Worst Experience at a Restaurant Free Essays
Farleyââ¬â¢s restaurant in Roswell doesnââ¬â¢t look like a dump, but it is. It is a fairly new restaurant, one my wife and I had been wanting to try ever since it was first being built. Last year, we had a chance to try it for lunch. We will write a custom essay sample on My Worst Experience at a Restaurant or any similar topic only for you Order Now We went there with our two-year-old son. Initial impressions were positive. The restaurant looked like a neat place to eat. The decor seemed to follow a kind of hip-retro rock-n-roll kind of theme, and there was even an old Moto Guzzi motorcycle parked on a stand in the middle of the floor for atmosphere. The hostess showed us to our table, and we waited. The waitress came by and took our drink order. We waited some more, and the waitress brought our drinks and took our food order. We waited some more. And then we waited some more. We waited and waited and waited. Our little two-year-old was growing cranky and impatient, but we waited and waited for the better part of an hour. Finally, after watching other people who came in after us get their food, the waitress came by and said it would be just a few more minutes. A few minutes later, she came by and said the kitchen was just starting our order. We left. About a week later my wife asked me if I wanted to go back to Farleyââ¬â¢s to give it another chance. ââ¬Å"No way,â⬠I said. ââ¬Å"They forgot about our business before, so they can forget about it now. â⬠But she was still curious, because the menu looked good to her. Shortly thereafter we were driving back from Grandmaââ¬â¢s house, and our little son fell asleep in the back seat of the car. My wife said she wanted to get some take-out for lunch, so I reluctantly agreed to pull into Farleyââ¬â¢s and wait in the car while she ordered some nachos. So I sat in the hot car with our sleeping son while she went in and ordered her take-out nachos. Again, we waited and waited. Finally, after way too long, she came back to the car with her order. We took our son home and put him to bed, and my wife ate her nachos.Later that night, she began to feel queasy, and then she became violently sick with food poisoning. She was sick all the next day, as well, and finally started to recover the day after. Later on, she told me that she thinks the kitchen staff might have dropped her order, and rather than fix her a new one, the might have just scooped it off the floor. I was pretty mad the first time we went to Farleyââ¬â¢s and they forgot all about us. Now Iââ¬â¢m just glad they didnââ¬â¢t have a chance to poison my son. The light and darkness in the poems of Lord Byron free essay sample
Abstract: The thesis is about the analysis of light and darkness in the poems of George Gordon Byron. The analysis is based on the two poems-She Walks in Beauty and Darkness. Key words: light, darkness, Byron, contrast, beauty, fight. As a leading figure of Romantic Movement, George Byron Is widely regarded as the most flamboyant and notorious one of the major Romantics. He was the Ideal of the Romantic poet, embracing the power of heart over the power of mind and fighting for the independence of Greece. And he was once described by one contemporary as mad, bad and dangerous to know for his scandalous private life including huge debts, numerous love affairs and rumors of incest with his half-sister. It seems that in his life light was interwoven with darkness. But here, the light In the title is abstracted from She walks In Beautyâ⬠Thus mellowd to that tender light/ Which heaven to gaudy day denies. We will write a custom essay sample on The light and darkness in the poems of Lord Byron or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page And the darkness Is from his poem Darkness. So the analysis of the light and darkness is based on the two poems. She Walks in Beauty beauty in light and darkness By the contrasts between light and dark, the external beauty of the woman is vividly escribed and reflected in the first two stanzas. In the beginning, the light of star is contrasted with the shadow of night to emphasize the beauty of the woman. And all thats best of dark and bright meets in her face and eyes, suggesting that she walks in a dark beauty but she Is herself a brighter beauty. Then as the tender light Is mellowed, her beauty is contrasted to the gaudy daylight. In the second stanza, Byron writes that One shade the more, one ray the less would diminish the nameless grace of the woman. Her dark hair and eyes are in contrast with her fair kin while the grace of her lightens her face. Then he turns to her inner thoughts that make the woman a pure and dear beauty. In the final stanza, her cheek, brow and smiles that are as beautiful as night serves to convey her Inner goodness, peaceful mind and Innocent love, which make her an even brighter beauty. Her soft cheek and brow, smiles and glowing tints tell of days in goodness spent, a mind at peace and a heart with innocent love. And these wonderful features make her all the more beautiful and brighter. In the poem, the contrast between light and dark is used to convey the soft beauty of the woman. The dark part of the contrast serves as a reality check to make the woman seem more worldly and real, and yet If she were to have even one bit more light or darkness she would only be half-impaired. But possessing a peaceful mind and innocent heart, she can bring forth her nameless grace out of darkness, which lightens and enhances her beauty in the speakers eyes. Darkness fight between light and darkness Darkness is one of the bitterest poems of Byron. It describes the end of world where people desperately struggle to survive by burning everything for light In order to fght galnst unlversal cola darkness. Here we can see tne Tlgnt Detween llgnt ana darkness, between survival and death. In the beginning, the poem tells readers that the author had a dream but was not at all a dream. The light of sun was extinguished and the icy earth and moonless air cause that men forgot their passions in the dread. In order to drive off darkness and coldness, men burn everything they can for light and heat. The darkness turns all hearts into a selfish prayer for light. As fires and light fades, men begin to weep or smile cynically or fall into madness. Then after running up of dead animals, men fght for a meal brought/ With blood in gloom, war and famine dominating the earth. Next, with men starving to death, those alive feed on the remains of the dead, even dogs attack their masters except one dog. The dog keeps faithful to his master and guards him until death in boundless gloom. Finally, two men remain alive and they are enemies. They set fire to a mass of holy things and as it grows lighter, they beheld/ Each others aspectssaw, and shriekd, and died. At last, the darkness is the universe. In the poem, darkness s the absolutely dominant force, bringing nothing but famine, death, chaos and depression. And light stands for the feeble and desperate hope for survival. However it fades and disappears and the civilization of human is destroyed as well. The feeble light in contrast with powerful darkness conveys the final fate of the world- collapse and destruction and the gloomy and desperate view of the author who wrote the poem only months after the end of his marriage to Anne Milbanke. Both of the poems above contain light and darkness but their themes are different in any aspects. The contrast between light and darkness in the two poems serves for conveying thoughts and emotions and enhancing the themes. But the meaning of light and darkness varies from one to another. In She Walks in Beauty, Byron repeats the contrast between light and darkness to reflect the external beauty of the woman and emphasize the grace and goodness of her that make her more beautiful. While in Darkness, the dominant darkness and feeble light displays the destruction of civilization and world. We can see Byron is really skillful in employing such a contrast in his poems. George Byron is often described as the most flamboyant British poet. His voluntary exile-travelling all over the Europe and fighting in the Greek War of Independence remains a legend around the world. While his poetry, along with his life-style, was considered as controversial in his time. Joan Murray, an American poet, once described Byron as Wild, audacious, rebellious half mad by nature; a creature made to tempt and to be tempted, to seduce and to fall, about whom there was but one certainty, that he was irreclaimable.

Essay Sample on Political Socialization A Number of Factors
Essay Sample on Political Socialization A Number of Factors Political socialization takes place in every society but is done in a variety ways; from the so-called subtle way democratic societies provide information to the public to the highly monitored ways that a communist society provides information to its people. Political socialization is the process by which people are taught, exposed or conditioned to what the norms and values of their society are and what it takes to be a productive member of it. The most prominent agents of political socialization are, family, school, work, and the media. Family plays a very important role in politically socializing you, especially in learning how to conduct your social behavior on a day-to-day basis. From the time you are an infant your family is politically socializing you. One of the first steps of this is, potty training. When you are being potty trained you are taught that you can no longer use the washroom any where you want to, as you do when your wearing diapers. You are taught that the washroom is the socially acceptable place to conduct these activities. Family also provides you with practical lessons of fundamental principles that are practiced in societies outside of your own. For example washing your hands before you eat is a simple task and is done in most societies. Imagine if your family had not taught you to practice this and you were to go out to dinner with business associates and your hands were covered in mud. You would be considered an outcast and any dealings you had with them may be cut off. Your family also he lps you understand the theoretical concepts that are important when learning how to communicate with people. My mother would often say to me ââ¬Å"Treat others, as you would like to be treatedâ⬠. This gave taught me that if I treated people with respect that I would also receive it. Politics were rarely discussed in my family, but I was raised in a liberal fashion. I was allowed to make many of my own decisions and if there was a difference of opinion between my mother and I a compromise was usually made. School is your first step into the political world. It is the first place where you are part of a social group. You are introduced to competition, cooperation, compromise, and democracy. Within all schools there are diverse social groups with different values and beliefs, this diversity can be compared to that of political parties. Each group hangs out in different sections of the school and only interact with each other in the classroom (similar to the House of Commons) this is one of the few settings where each group learns about each others differences and similarities on first hand basis. Moreover competition is at the forefront of every school. As soon as you enter kindergarten you realize everyone is competing for the title of being the best, whether it is being the smartest in the class or the best athlete. Cooperation was introduced with having to work on assignments with other students regardless off whether you liked or disliked them, through this compromise was reached by having to accept what fellow classmates wanted along with what you wanted. Democracy in school was a regular occurrence in school whether it was voting for class president or school president both of these votes entitles you to have a say in who would be representing you and your opinions. The funny thing about school is that you learn the concept of ââ¬Å"majority rulesâ⬠before youââ¬Ëve even heard of democracy. The media plays a very important role in the political socialization of members of our society. The reason for this is that being part of a developed society we are exposed to the messages of the media on a daily basis whether it is from television, radio, or the newspaper. Television is the most influential of the three simply because it is the easiest avenue to transmit political ideas to people. For one a large amount of people owns a television, which makes it easy to have ideas transmitted on a large scale. Secondly, television caters to everyone regardless of age, race, or gender. Television has an influence on peopleââ¬â¢s socialization since they start to watch as a child. It is not rare for a parent to ask their child ââ¬Å"Where did you learn from?â⬠and the response is very commonly ââ¬Å"From T.V.â⬠. Children are not the only ones affected by television, teenagers and adults both have their opinions influenced by TV especially by the news where many issues are portrayed with a biased view. An example of this is after September 11,2001 any Muslim person who was an introvert was portrayed to be a possible terrorist. Television did have an influence on my political socialization and still does. The means I take to avoid acquiring biased opinions is by viewing with a critical eye. No one factor can determine a personââ¬â¢s political socialization because socialization depends on a number of factors and is an on going process through out a personââ¬â¢s life.

Definition and Examples of the Greengrocers Apostrophe
Definition and Examples of the Greengrocers Apostrophe Greengrocers apostrophe is an informal term in British English for the nonstandard use of an apostrophe before the final -s in the plural form of a word. Examples and Observations There was formerly a respectable tradition (17c - 19c) of using the apostrophe for noun plurals, especially in loanwords ending in a vowel (as in We doe confess Erratas, Leonard Lichfield, 1641, and Commas are used, Phillip Luckcombe, 1771) and in consonants s, z, ch, sh (as in waltzs and cotillions, Washington Irving, 1804). Although this practice is rare in 20th c. standard usage, the apostrophe of plurality continues in . . . the nonstandard (illiterate) use often called in BrE the greengrocers apostrophe, as in apples 55p per lb and We sell the original shepherds pies (notice in a shop window, Canterbury, England).(Tom McArthur, The Oxford Companion to the English Language. Oxford University. Press, 1992) The ubiquity of apostrophes to signal the plural of fruits and vegetablesas in Carrots, Bananas, and (gasp!) Peacheshas created the term, at least in England, the greengrocers apostrophe. The worst offender found by John Richard and the Apostrophe Protection Society: Golden Deli-cious.Greengrocers, butchers, and supermarket managers have received polite notes from the Apostrophe Protection Society reminding them of the differences between plural and possessive nouns. Among the targets of polite letters that the APS has sent was a local cafe that serves Chips, Sausages, Rolls, Eggs, and every other foodstuff with a garnishing of apostrophe. But the establishment calls itself Bennys Cafe.(Richard Lederer and John Shore, Comma Sense: A Fun-damental Guide to Punctuation. St. Martins Press, 2005) The greengrocers apostrophewhere a simple plural is turned into a singular possessiveis probably the main cause of distress for the many people who would like punctuation to be used properly. It is so public that it encourages even more wrong use.(Christine Sinclair, Grammar: A Friendly Approach. Open University Press, 2007) The Restaurant Apostrophe We could just as well call this misuse of the apostrophe to create a plural noun the restaurant apostrophe, for it appears on countless menusoften miswritten menuseven in chichi establishments. The menu of an Italian restaurant in my neighborhood has some especially outrageous specimens: pizzas, pastas, appetizers, soup salads, and lunch specials. You can even order a pizza with sauteed onions. . . .The grocers or restaurant apostrophe also occurs in the curious way some people have of pluralizing their surname. They write the Simpsons or sometimes the Simpsons when all they need to do is say Doh! and write the Simpsons. (Of course, if a plural possessive is involved, a terminal apostrophe is required: the Simpsons house.)(Charles Harrington Elster, The Accidents of Style: Good Advice on How Not to Write Badly. St. Martins Press, 2010) An Atrocity? Think of the word atrocity, and certain appalling behaviours spring to mind. Add barbaric, and the picture gets worse. How about a barbaric atrocity thats detestable and provokes horror? At this point, its surely time for a UN intervention. We must act to halt this outrage! Except that all the words just quoted come from discussions of the uses and abuses of English. Simon Heffer, in his recent book Strictly English, thinks the so-called greengrocers apostrophe is an atrocity, and that academics write barbarically . . ..Anger delivers ego-enhancing pleasure; so does strengthening the boundaries of group membershipand carping about language is far more socially acceptable than explicit class snobbery or nationalism (not to mention less bother than confronting actual atrocities). Still, can we get, sorry, may we have, a bit of perspective, please? (Oliver Burkeman, Why Do They Adopt an Error-Hunting Mindset? The Guardian, Dec. 16, 2011) The Demise of the Apostrophe? In our period . . . came the arbitrary codification of its and whose without apostrophe as the genitives of it and who, respectively, and its, whos with apostrophe as the contraction of it, who with is or has. It is hardly surprising that these conventions seem to be in rapid collapse, with what has been called the greengrocers apostrophe (apples 60p, Antiques, linguistics, and perhaps even meant, all personally attested) just one symptom of what may well turn out to be the imminent demise of the apostrophe. Distressing though it is to purists, it must be admitted that genuine ambiguities caused by omission or misuse of the apostrophe are very infrequent indeed. (David Denison, Syntax. The Cambridge History of the English Language, Volume 4, ed. by Suzanne Romaine. Cabridge University Press, 1998)
